Chet Baker collaborated with Elvis Costello on a few occasions. In 1983, he played trumpet on Costello's song 'Shipbuilding' and three years later, he re-joined Costello and Van Morrison at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. On 19 May 1988 the album 'Bespoke Songs, Lost Dogs, Detours & Rendezvous', a tribute album to Costello, was released. On the album Chet Baker sang a version of 'Almost Blue'. Costello said: "It comes from the album Chet Baker In Tokyo, recorded in 1987, and it finds Chet much more at ease with the tune
