American Woman is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band The Guess Who, and the last to feature lead guitarist Randy Bachman until a reformation effort in 1983. The album peaked at on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. It stayed on the charts for over a year and was their most successful release with over 20 million copies sold.

American woman, said get away American woman, listen what I say Don't come a-hangin' around my door Don't wanna see your face no more I don't need your war machines I don't need your ghetto scenes Colored lights can hypnotize Sparkle someone else's eyes Now woman, get away from me American woman, mama, let me be. Go, gotta get away, gotta get away Now go go go I'm gonna leave you, woman Gonna leave you, woman Bye-bye Bye-bye Bye-bye Bye-bye You're no good for me I'm no good for you Gonna look you right in the eye Tell you what I'm gonna do You. One of the greatest hits by a Canadian band, The Guess Who’s American Woman was written in 1969 after a long tour in the USA. It is from their album with same name. Lenny Kravitz created one of the most well known covers for this song. com/watch?v UzWHE32IxUc.

American Woman is the sixth and most succesful studio album by Canadian rock band The Guess Who. It is the last album which features lead guitarist Randy Bachman. He brings some of the best guitar riffs the band has ever recorded, especially on the hit single "American Woman", later successfully covered by Lenny Kravitz

American Woman (film), a 2018 film. Canned Wheat is the fifth studio album by Canadian rock band The Guess Who. It peaked at on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. Two of the band's hits were taken from the album: "Laughing" and "Undun"

The Guess Who/ American Woman (BMG/Buddha): This is a wonderful album from 1970 that reflects the era perfectly and yet remains current. Not only did the song "American Woman" become a hit (and an anthem) but "No Time" and "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" were huge hits as well. The album has never sounded better. There are even two pages of the booklet where the lead singer (Burton Cummings) gives a short statement on every song. A classic album in American culture from a Canadian group. The song "American Woman" took this country by storm back in the seventies. For that reason alone this album is worth the asking price. Throw in a few extra tracks and this album is worth twice the asking price.

This RCA album was released in MARCH 1970 - NOT in 1969 as is listed in the Year: line above.

Dynagroove is not a vinyl compound. It was invented by RCA and is used during the cutting of a record. It was used in the misguided notion to make records sound better on shitty turntables. The problem with that was when you upgraded your turntable your record would sound worse.
Dianazius
iseveryusernametaken mybeatgoeson Dynagroove was a Thinner vinyl pressing of the record and supposed to be for eliminating warps. Dynaflex was the thinner pressings, Dynagroove was a different mastering technique to make it sound better on the crappier, non compliant turntables of the time +1 ..... most accurate and concise description of the two terms, couldn't have put it better myself.

Hi,I am plying in a decent TT and sound terrific. What the LP say is that you can play on mono or stereo with good result.

Awesome album, you wont be disappointed in it at all.
The_NiGGa
The best sounding pressing (by far) of this great album that I have ever heard...get it!
Fani
Another disappointing pressing from Friday Music, came with "burps" that ruins the listening experience. I will need to wait for another company to remaster and release this great album...
Kelezel
What do you mean by "burps"? Mastering was done by Kevin Gray who's fantastic. I own The Best Of The Guess Who from the same label and mastering engineer and it sounds lovely. You can also get the Cisco version which is also mastered by KG but perhaps the pressing will be of higher quality.
Fog
Gatefold with lyrics inside cover.

The Guess Who seem to be just known for their hits and not really for their albums, and that's a shame. They made several great albums. American Woman, their last before Randy Bachman's departure is a prime example. They take on a harder-edge approach than their previous albums, probably because they wanted more FM rock credibility. We all know the title track and "No Time". The title track actually has a bluesy intro that's been omitted on the single version, and most radio stations don't bother playing the one with the bluesy intro. I really dig that guitar riff and lead guitar. I hate to say this, it totally clobbers Lenny Kravitz's version big time. "No Time" first made its way on the previous album, Canned Wheat, but of course, it reappeared again on this album but with slight changes in the guitar solo, and those lyrics that go "I go no time in messing with you, girl" removed completely. Of course, most are you are familiar with this version (this version was released as a single) and not the one of Canned Wheat, so if you want the true original, get Canned Wheat. "Talisman" is one people don't seem to care for. To me, it's a nice mellow psychedelic number that, strangely, reminds me of King Crimson minus the Mellotron. I could almost imagine Peter Sinfield writing the lyrics. Coincidence? In the Court of the Crimson King did come out while the band was in the middle of recording this album (the Crimson album was released in October 1969, and the American Woman album completed in November 1969, released two months later). Then we come up with the classic "New Mother Nature/No Sugar Tonight". My guess was this band meant them to be two separate songs, but sounded so good melded together that they kept it that way. The rest of the album is not known to the average rock listeners, which is too bad. Check out "8:15", which rocks nicely, as well as the wonderful "Proper Stranger". "Humpty's Blues" is the album's only weak point, as far as I'm concerned. Blues has never been my music of choice, and this sounds like blues by numbers to me. I still highly recommend this to rock fans, even ones who might dismiss this band as a "singles band".
