Ernesto Júlio de Nazareth (March 20, 1863 – February 1, 1934) was a Brazilian composer and pianist, especially noted for his creative Maxixe and Choro compositions. Influenced by African rhythms and many musical styles like the Lundu and the Choro, he never fully accepted this influence, refusing to give popular names to his compositions. A musician of classical training, he classified his music as "Brazilian tangos", since the Argentine tango and dances were considered fashionable at the time

Arthur Moreira Lima performs Brazilian Tangos and Waltzes of Ernest Nazareth (1863-1934) on this 15-track 1984 release. i had this album on vinyl, and finally got it on cd. it's delightful from start to finish-beautiful music, obviously played by a wonderful pianist who loves it. and you should hear his chopin waltzes (which were used in the joyce hatto scandal)! lima placed second to argerich in the chopin competition. 2 people found this helpful.
