Oscar Peterson Plays the Duke Ellington Song book. Oscar Peterson Plays the Duke Ellington Song book is a 1959 album by pianist Oscar Peterson of compositions written or performed by Duke Ellington. Peterson had recorded many of the pieces for his 1952 album Oscar Peterson Plays Duke Ellington, and had recently performed with Ella Fitzgerald on her 1957 album, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Song book.

Producer Norman Granz invited Oscar Peterson and his Trio to record a set of Ellington songs in 1952. Seven years later, they did it again-this time in stereo and with different interpretations and personnel. This CD combines two LPs devoted to the same Duke Ellington material recorded by different versions of the Oscar Peterson trio. The first is of particular interest. This is a double album that combines an early album titled Oscar Peterson Plays Duke Ellington that was recorded in Los Angeles for Mercury, and a later 1959 album titled Oscar Peterson Plays The Duke Ellington Song Book that was recorded in Chicago for Verve.
