The Very Best of Deep Purple is a single disc compilation album by the British hard rock band Deep Purple. It was released in 2000 by Rhino Records/Warner Bros. It features tracks by the Mk. I, Mk. II and Mk. III line-ups of Deep Purple. This compilation is supposed to be a single disc alternative to the more comprehensive Shades four-disc collection. All the tracks were remastered simultaneously for inclusion in both sets.

I've never understood why it's hated on so much by not only the press but the band itself. Mark-II is the absolute quintessential Deep Purple. I actually like the funky sound of this album, if that's what you'd call it. - Metarock. Full of great tracks. in my list of Deep Purple best. Coming Home, Lady Luck, and Getting Tighter" are as good as Depp Purple gets! Great rifts and catchy tunes. Bolin shows why he was rated so high back then - too bad his demise put a quick stop to this line-up. They can still create great, listenable rock music, even the ballads are good. I don't think it should be so low on the list.
