About 15 months separated Saturn and its sequel, Rock Steady - a clear sign that No Doubt was getting back to business, but it's really a more accurate reflection of Gwen Stefani's stature in 2001. Smartly, they followed a Madonna blueprint by working with several producers - Nellee Hooper, Sly & Robbie, Ric Ocasek, Prince, Steely & Clevie - and running it through Mark "Spike" Stent for mixing and additional production, thereby giving it a unified sound while covering all the bases.

King’s first album for the Stax label combines his hard, unflashy guitar playing with the sleek sound of the label’s house band, Booker T. and the MG’s. Hits such as Crosscut Saw and Laundromat Blues earned King a new rock & roll audience. Then this solo debut album of razor-sharp dance pop became the first by a female performer to score four Top Five hits, including Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time.

1970 may have marked a new decade, at least on the calendar, but as you'll see in the below list of 1970's Best Rock Albums, it was still pretty much the '60s musically. A few new names surface here and there, but for the most part, the year was dominated by many of the previous decade's biggest artists, including the Doors, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. Even the Beatles had one more thing to say before calling it quits. If the LPs on our list of 1970's Best Rock Albums seem like an end, rather than a beginning, that's because it was. The '70s would need another few years to kick into gear. Some of music's biggest bands even chose to sit out the first year of the new decade (both the Rolling Stones and the Who released live albums instead of new studio projects), choosing to recover rather than start anew.
