Joan Baez ‎– Blowin' Away. Genre: Folk, World, & Country. Style: Folk, Folk Rock, Ballad. Blowin' Away ‎(Cass, Album).

Blowin' Away was a 1977 album by Joan Baez, her first after switching from A&M Records to Portrait Records (a then newly created division of CBS Records). The album veered more toward mainstream pop than any album Baez had recorded up to that point, though many critics at the time pointed out that she seemed not entirely comfortable with her "new sound"

Listen free to Joan Baez – Blowin' Away (Sailing, Many A Mile To Freedom and more). Joan used to say that this is a good album with a bad cover. It contains a cover of Rod Stewart's hit "Sailing", a cover of the standard "Cry me a river" and a song dedicated to the gay fan base called "Altar boy and the thief". Time Rag" describes Joan's relationships with the current recording company that wanted to make her a pop-star and sell as many album copies as possible by doing an interview for "Times" magazine.

Blowin' Away is the slickest record Baez had recorded to date, a polished collection of folk-pop. To some ears, this may be a little unsettling, but it has to be said that the production is glossily appealing, and Baez sings very well throughout the record. The problem is, most of the material is unmemorable and generic, making the album only of interest to her most dedicated fans.

Many a Mile to Freedom, 02:55. The album veered more toward mainstream pop than any album Baez had recorded up to that point, though many critics at the time pointed out that she seemed not entirely comfortable with her "new sound". Among the songs covered were the Rod Stewart hit "Sailing", and the standard "Cry Me a River", in addition to a number of Baez' own compositions.
