Although this new-ish label maybe unfamiliar to many of you, when I tell you it’s run by the man who put Eightball Records in the top pocket of New York house, you’ll know there’s quality en masse in dem grooves. Add Angel ‘Tequila’ Moraes to the equation and you’ve got a damn-near essential single release. Less is more as Latrice Verrett throatily lip syncs “pump me baby, work me baby” over a backdrop that’s so stripped down, dark and percussive that this has 5am stamped all over it, particularly when the burbling synths fade up to create an acidic climax mid-way through the 10-minute epic. There’s a remix by Kats Imal & Eddie Styles that adds a touch of techno-tribal into the blender – equally essential too – but for me it’s Angel’s mix that has all the qualities to make it to the front of Tenaglia’s box.
