This album is the first to feature guitarist Jeff Erickson since he took over for Robert Buck following his death in 2000, and the first Maniacs album to feature Mary Ramsey without her longtime music partner, John Lombardo.
Faltermeyer had already started working on Top Gun, but he could not resist the chance to do Fletch. Director Ritchie mostly left the composer alone to do his own thing, and the finished film premiered May 31, 1985.
