Misty in Roots are a British roots reggae band formed in Southall, London in the mid 1970s. Their first album was 1979's Live at the Counter Eurovision, a record full of Rastafarian songs. It was championed by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, helping to bring roots reggae to a white audience. At this early stage, the band was a collective with five lead singers and various musicians, though by the time of the second album proper the band had slimmed down to just three members.

The Counter Eurovision took place at the Cirque Royal in Brussels on 31st March and 1st April 1979. It was organised by CAFIT under the initiative of Pour le Socialisme and the weekly newspaper POUR (Belgium). This album was produced with the helpful collaboration of the non-profit making association CAFIT (Collectif d'Animation pour la Formation et l'Information des Travailleurs). By 1978 Misty In Roots had their own orthodox roots sound with rastafarian lyrics, and started touring as a solo group. They were also a major force in the Rock Against Racism movement. Their first album Live at the Counter Eurovision 79 was recorded live in Belgium.

Misty In Roots were a British based reggae and roots band predominantly active in the 70's and 80's. They were heavily involved in the beginnings of "Rock Against Racism", helping to create a platform for both black and white musicians to stand and play together for the first time. As the 80's progressed the band looked to Africa, rather than Jamaica, to develop their uncompromising reggae roots sound. After the overwhelming commercial and critical success of his debut album "Timeless", an album that correlated with the popular explosion of Drum and Bass as a genre, and the scene he built around his record label, Metalheadz. Goldie released "Saturnz Return" from which "Digital" is lifted.

The essential British roots reggae album beloved by John Pee. piritual beyond genre, political beyond the protest song. Misty in Roots produced something raw and righteous on this their live debut, direct from a socialist festival at the Cirque Royal, Brussels. The tightest rhythms, the sweetest keys and the sharpest vocal shifts jump out from this electric recording. Known songs are 'Ghetto Of The City', 'Mankind', 'Judas Iskariot', 'Follow Fashion', 'Poor And Needy'. Dance Hall Babylon', 'Own Them Control Them'.
