Exclusive discount for Prime members. Sample this album Artist - Artist (Sample). The reissue gods are smiling. This bargain Gemini two-fer contains four superlative concerto recordings-the Tchaikovsky Second and Third with Gilels, the Prokofiev Fifth and Bartok Second with Richter. The conductor throughout is Lorin Maazel, definitely on best behavior, and the orchestras vary between the LSO (Prokofiev), New Philharmonia (Tchaikovsky), and the Orchestre de Paris (Bartok). EMI's early Seventies analog sound is bright and forward. The perspective on the piano is natural with Gilels, but as usual, Richter asked to be miked more up close.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 in G major, Op. 44, was written in 1879–1880 and dedicated to Nikolai Rubinstein, who had insisted he be allowed to perform it at the premiere as a way of making up for his harsh criticism of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto. But Rubinstein was destined never to play it, as he died in March 1881, and the work has never attained much popularity.

Tchaikovsky: Piano Concertos No. & 2 (CD) By: NSKY Schoenberg Gurrelieder by Claudio Abbado with VPO.

The Piano Concerto No. 1 in B♭ minor, Op. 23, was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between November 1874 and February 1875. It was revised in the summer of 1879 and again in December 1888. The first version received heavy criticism from Nikolai Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky's desired pianist. Rubinstein later repudiated his previous accusations and became a fervent champion of the work. It is one of the most popular of Tchaikovsky's compositions and among the best known of all piano concertos

All three versions were also arranged for 2 pianos by Tchaikovsky. php?title Piano Concerto No. 23 (Tchaikovsky, Pyotr)&oldid 2843218.

Album · 1994 · 6 Songs. Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23: II. Andantino semplice. By Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, Yevgeny Mravinsky & Sviatoslav Richter. 3. 23: III. Allegro con fuoco. 4. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18: I. Moderato. By Sergei Rachmaninoff - Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, Kurt Sanderling & Sviatoslav Richter.

This 1995 release from Deutsche Grammophon combines two memorable concerto recordings by Sviatoslav Richter. Almost all of Richter's recordings are considered legendary - particularly since he did not like recording in the studio - but these are rightfully so. They were some of the first that were released widely in the west, where he was still something of a new talent in the late '50s-early '60s, although a middle-aged man by then. 3 in E-flat major, Op. posth. 75, was originally begun as a Symphony in E-flat. The composer ultimately abandoned this symphony, but, in 1893, started to rework it into a piano concerto, before abandoning all but the first movement, which he completed as a concert piece for piano and orchestra. It was published posthumously, in 1894, as a single-movement Allegro Brillante
