Welcome to the Club is the first live album by Ian Hunter. After the unexpected success of You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic, Chrysalis Records wanted to keep the momentum by releasing another album. Because Hunter never wrote when he was on the road, it became a live album which was recorded at the Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood) over seven nights in November 1979 during his . tour. However, there were four new tracks (all of side four) three of which were recorded live in studio.
This week Mike and Kelly discuss Kelly's recommendation - Ian Hunter's "Welcome to the Club". This is a wonderful live album featuring the incomparable Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson's amazing guitar work. By the way the other album its tied with is Zappa/Mothers Roxy & Elsewhere. The Echidna's Arf/Don't You Ever Wash That Thing medley if probably the best live piece ever played. I loved this album when I first heard it 30 years ago, and then I sort of forgot about Hunter and stopped listening to him. My mistake. I bought this again last week and haven't stopped getting back to what I loved most about it all those years ago.
