The Greatest Love of All" is a song written by Michael Masser, who composed the music, and Linda Creed, who wrote the lyrics. In 2003, Rolling Stone asked a panel of 271 artists, producers, industry executives and journalists to pick the greatest albums of all time. In 2009, we asked a similar group of 100 experts to pick the best albums of the 2000s. From those results, Rolling Stone created this new list of the greatest albums of all time.
from the album The Greatest Soundtrack. The song was further popularized by Whitney Houston under the title "Greatest Love of All". The song was recorded by the American recording artist for her debut album, self-titled Whitney Houston, which was released in February 1985 by Arista Records. The song became a major hit, topping the charts in Australia, Canada and the US, while reaching the top 20 in most countries, including Italy, Sweden and the UK. It remains her third biggest US hit, after "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)".
Greatest Love of All was written by Michael Masser & the late Linda Creed, who wrote the song during her struggle with breast cancer. The song was originally in 1977 by George Benson for the Muhammad Ali biopic The Greatest. Whitney covered the song for her 1985 self-titled debut album. Originally, Clive Davis didn’t want Whitney to record the song for the album, but eventually gave in after being persuaded by Michael Masser and Whitney. The song became a hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Black Singles and adult contemporary charts in 1986.
