Swiss violinist Meret Lüthi is artistic director and concertmaster of the baroque orchestra Les Passions De L'Ame (2), which she co-founded in 2008. Händel , Geminiani – Robin Johannsen, Les Passions De L'Ame (2), Meret Lüthi - Bewitched (CD, Album).
l'Âme/Meret Lüthi rec. 2014, Yehudi Menuhin Forum, Bern Texts and translations included DEUTSCHE HARMONIA MUNDI 88985438432. For most of his life Francesco Geminiani worked in England. However, in the 1740s and 1750s he went to Paris several times, first to oversee the printing of some of his music, and in 1754 for the performance of the incidental music La forest enchantée. In that respect Les Passions de l'Âme leave nothing to be desired. The playing is theatrical and colourful, also thanks to the excellent contributions of the wind players, and the contrasts are fully explored. Robin Johannsen takes the right amount of rhythmic freedom in the recitatives. However, she takes too much freedom in the ornamentation, deviating sometimes too far from what Handel has written down. She also uses a bit too much vibrato now and then.
It’s a pity that the rest of Geminiani’s music lacks the same zest. Well recorded and nicely presented, this disc may have limited appeal. Classical Music, Instrumental.
They bring superb style and expression to the opening 'La Follia' piece, and vivid energy to Geminiani's sequence of orchestral movements - the more vigorous sections with horns and trumpet going especially well and producing spectacular instrumental textures in places.

Les Passions de l’Ame. Das Orchester für Alte Musik Les Passions de l’Ame wurde 2008 in Bern von Meret Lüthi gegründet. Seine Mitglieder sind international renommierte Spezialisten für das Repertoire von der Renaissance bis zur Klassik und arbeiten als Solisten, Kammermusiker und in Formationen wie dem Freiburger Barockorchester und dem belgischen Ensemble B’Rock oder sind als Pädagogen am Konservatorium Antwerpen und an der Hochschule der Künste in Bern tätig. Gastspiele führten Les Passions de l’Ame zu den Berliner Tagen für Alte Musik, zum Festival Bach en Combrailles nach Frankreich, zu den Brühler Schlosskonzerten und den Musikfestspielen Potsdam-Sanssouci.
