Tommy Roe wrote this innocent song about young love when he was 14 years old, and first recorded it in 1960 with his group The Satins. The song was influenced by Buddy Holly's hit "Peggy Su. This was originally recorded in 1960 for a small label called Judd Records, which was run by Jud Phillips, the brother of Sam Phillips of Sun Records. When Roe accepted a deal with ABC-Paramount, the song was rerecorded with a different arrangement, and released as the B-side to "Save Your. See next post below}.

Tommy Roe hits collections are a dicey proposition. Roe re-recorded most of his big hits like "Sheila," "Dizzy," and "Sweet Pea" sometime in the '80s (judging by the drum sounds and production values) and they have been repackaged in various ways. UAX's Sheila seems to contain the entire batch of re-recordings, all 16 of them. While Roe is mostly in decent voice, the backings let him down and the result is pretty dismal, especially if you grabbed the disc thinking it was all original Roe hits
