Since there is little officially licensed video of . s punk/soul outfit Mink DeVille during its salad days, this DVD is especially welcome. Even if it wasn't a find because of the scarcity of footage of the pre-solo Willy DeVille led band, this is a rousing document of the act at its zenith.

Live at Montreux 1982 & 1985 is the fourth live album of American blues musician Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band Double Trouble, recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 17, 1982 (Disc 1) and July 15, 1985 (Disc 2), and released November 20, 2001 on Epic Records. 1982 found Mink DeVille developing their original New York punk origins into a more subtle, rootsier sound blending soul, R & B, Cajun and other influences but still looking and sounding as sharp as ever, with leader Willy DeVille in particularly fine form. It was to be their only appearance at Montreux, although Will DeVille has since returned as a solo artist. The band had recently released their fourth album "Coup De Grace" and the show features tracks from across their career up to that point plus their cover of the Ben E. King classic "Stand By M. Tracks

Willie DeVille was the real deal, a street-wise soulful rock n roller, who should have become a huge star. Blessed with a voice that has its roots in everything from street corner doo-wop to classic RnB to ripping rock. The band broke out of the NYC punk scene in the mid 70s but they werent really a punk band (except in their hybrid-hyphenated mix of great music). If you're a fan this is a must have. There a re a few moments in this live set that are transcendental. A rare opportunity to see his talents on stage.
