Shakira is the tenth studio album by Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira, released on 21 March 2014 by RCA Records. Shakira revealed in November 2011 that she had begun work on the album, which continued into 2013. The album was initially set to be released in 2012, but was delayed because of Shakira's pregnancy and scrapped most of those songs and started making new ones.
The track was released as the album's fourth single in 2003 in many European countries, but not in the United States. Epic Records wanted to release "The One" in the United States, but due to the failure of Shakira's previous single "Objection (Tango)" and that it was doing below average, Epic scrapped those plans.

The track was released as the album’s fourth single in 2003 in many European countries, but not in the United States. The One was able to make the TRL countdown, and it peaked at number three. In other countries, it became a modest hit.
