The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions is an album by blues musician Howlin' Wolf released in 1971 on Chess Records, and on Rolling Stones Records in Britain. It was one of the first super session blues albums, setting a blues master among famous musicians from the second generation of rock and roll, in this case Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman. It peaked at on the Billboard 200.
While it's nowhere near as awful as some blues purists make it out to be, the disparity of energy levels between the Wolf and his . acolytes is not only palpable but downright depressing. Wolf was a very sick man at this juncture and Norman Dayron's non-production idea of just doing remakes of earlier Chess classics is wrongheaded in the extreme.

Put simply, the Wolf album is his best in years. But, the basic band of Clapton, Winwood, Wyman and Watts playing those old Chess blues licks that they all started their careers with were the exact propulsion that Howlin’ Wolf needed to get in the mood that results in thirteen blues-stellar performances. From the opening cut,.
The story of Howlin’ Wolf’s London Sessions album has its genesis in San Francisco in August 1968 when Cream and Electric Flag played the Fillmore Auditorium. Backstage, Norman Dayron who was a staff producer for Chess Records introduced himself to Eric Clapton and Mike Bloomfield who were chatting. How would you like to make an album with Howlin’ Wolf? He said to Clapton. Unsure initially of his credentials, Clapton was hesitant, but when it was conformed that Dayron was who he said he was Clapton agreed. It only needed for the guitarists schedule to fit in with Wolf’s and it would happen.
