Garbage spent two years working on their follow-up album, Version ., which charted in the top 20 in 12 countries and was certified platinum in four countries and the European Union. The band recorded the theme song of the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. The band's third album, Beautiful Garbage (2001), failed to match the commercial success achieved by its predecessors. Garbage quietly disbanded in late 2003, but regrouped to complete their fourth album Bleed Like Me in 2005, peaking at a career-high number.

Garbage had not considered "Vow" for inclusion on the album or even as a single. Because the exclusive licensing of Volume prevented a full commercial single release, on March 20, 1995, Mushroom issued "Vow" in a limited 7" vinyl format through Discordant, a label set up just to launch Garbage. By May, commercial alternative radio in the US had picked. Worldwide, the final single release from the album was the reworked version of "Milk", which became the band's second UK top 10 hit. The band performed the song live at the MTV Europe Music Awards in London on November 14; Garbage won the Breakthrough award at the event.

The remastering from the original analogue tapes was handled by Scott Hull and the artwork for the reissue was reworked by Ryan Corey at Smog Design.

Version . is the second album by alternative rock group Garbage. It was released in worldwide in May 1998 and was the follow up to the band's multi-platinum debut album Garbage. Despite a slow start, Version . went on to equal its predecessor, becoming platinum-certified in many territories. Like their first record, Garbage promoted Version . with a year-long tour, and by releasing a string of hit singles backed with boundary-pushing promotional videos. Version .

And a strong candidate for Worst. You Look So Fine is the last great song on the album, continuing the Garbage tradition of slightly grandiose album closers. It begins with an airy three-note piano motif which will repeat itself throughout the track, and masterfully employs a string section without sounding overblown. The song also benefits from a strong, impressive vocal performance and an excellent itchen-sink production. The last hightlight, and a strongly recommended listen.
