The Brainstorm crew, formed in Peterborough in 1991. Their First release was on White House records white label from Mo's music machine. Went on to record with Formation Records, produced by Richard Elliott and engineered by Marc Yorath of the label. Brainstorm Crew split in 1992, to pursue different styles. MC Storm, MC for the crew's live performances continued to MC in the rave scene. Richard Elliott continued his career as a producer, currently under the name Brainstormer, Rob Hannan now works as a systems Manager.

The Brainstorm podcast originated as a singular show produced with the intent to spread critical thinking, skepticism towards fringe ideas, acceptance of scientific consensus, and fact based information. Over the years it has grown into multiple shows covering a broad range of topics and a conference that brings speakers from across the spectrum of skeptical activism to Saskatchewan.

The Southey Woods EP was recorded by The Brainstorm Crew based in Peterborough. It was produced using only basic computer and mixing equipment and recorded to DAT before being pressed by Whitehouse Records. The pressing was limited to 1,000 copies with only c 800 being distributed. Quality of the pressing was not as per the original master DAT however. The EP is named after a local woods in the Peterborough area known for gatherings after club events. This is where the original cassette demo's were played.

Would love to repress but original DAT is long gone. Glad to hear the woods continued to be usd as a “venue”. In 1992 a good night would attract over 300 people.

That was my Opel Manta! We would make the trip from Shock to Southey Woods often via the petrol station and multi storey car park. Good times

I used to go to Southey Woods back in 1991. I remember someone with a Opal car with really big PA Speakers in the boot and everyone dancing at about 3 am...good times. Stand out track on here for me is Play it Load

Any chance of repressing this? I used to DJ in those woods 10 years later lol for a friend and his mum who promoted events at ashby-de-la-launde country club. Small world and respect for all brainstorm crew tracks.

There are 5 copies in existence that were signed by each member of the group. This was then confirmed by Richard Elliott when he joined b2vos a few years ago. here is a piccy : http://s21.postimg.org/ts5h2zfrr/image.jpg

great release every tune is pure old skool darkness at its best but without being moody. as for the quality of the pressing sure my copy is a little bit quiet but nothing that turning up the eqs abit wont fix

RE:below - My copy is fine - sounds how it's supposed to...just a slightly quiet press.Solid EP...great production, funky as hell but with a techno edge : )'Soothin' is my fave - distorted TR-909 hits really well programmed..shame about the tempo change sections [loses about 30bpm]...always catches me out DJing!

There is at least 2 tunes on this piece of wax that are well worth having in your old skool collection, only trouble is the pressing is one of the worst ive ever had the misfortune of owning. It's so quite it isnt even funny and how any DJ is going to make use of this is beyond me. Awfull Pressing Truly Awfull! Amazing Tunes though just such a crying shame the volumes crap. Do not be fooled into paying the stupid prices people want for this record it's really not worth it and im not the only person who has a rubbish pressing of this!!!! BEWARE AND BE WARNED! WORST PRESSING EVER!!!!!! The 1st Tune on the AA side is a wicked tune though!

indeed, such a shame really :-(
