to Self-Destruct is the tenth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released as a double album on November 18, 2016 by their vanity label Blackened Recordings. It is their first studio album in eight years following Death Magnetic (2008), marking the longest gap between two studio albums in the band's career. It is also their first studio album released through Blackened.
Metallica began their long journey back home some time after nearly imploding during the recording of 2003's St. Anger. To Self-Destruct arrives 13 years after that album but it, almost more than its 2008 predecessor Death Magnetic, feels like a repudiation of the band's '90s, the years when Metallica shined up, slowed down, and got a lot weirder And Justice for All), Hardwired.
Due out November 18, it consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.
