Singles Going Steady is a compilation album by English punk rock band Buzzcocks, first released on . Records in the United States on 25 September 1979.
If Never Mind the Bollocks and London Calling are held up as punk masterpieces, then there's no question that Singles Going Steady belongs alongside them. In fact, the slew of astonishing seven-inches collected on Steady and their influence on future musicians - punk or otherwise - sometimes even betters more famous efforts. The title and artwork alone (the latter itself partially inspired by the Beatles' Let it Be) have been parodied or referred to by Halo of Flies and Don Caballero, which titled its own singles comp Singles Breaking Up. As for the music, anybody who ever combined.
Singles Going Steady didn’t weaponize punk with the goal of toppling the dominance of silly love songs in the ’70s; the album is as much Wings as it is Ramones, as sympathetic to Captain & Tennille’s Love Will Keep Us Together as it is to Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart. Buzzcocks mastered that tension at the heart of the love song-the opposing forces of attraction and repulsion, of devotion and betrayal, the thin line between love and hate, for others and for oneself . The peak of Singles Going Steady-and of Buzzcocks’ legacy-is the hit British single Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve?). Paraphrasing a Marlon Brando line from the musical Guys and Dolls, the droll title belies the song’s power.

Singles Going Steady is a compilation album by English punk band Buzzcocks, first released on . Records in the US on 25 September 1979. It was the first Buzzcocks album to be released in North America and intended as an introduction to the band for the American public, coinciding with a US tour
Singles Going Steady is an album of the Buzzcocks’ eight number one singles (well in a punk rock universe) and B-sides filled with catchy hooks, melodies, punk rage, blasting guitars, loopy bass lines, hard-hitting drums, and Pete Shelley’s high-pitch wailing vocals. Spearheaded by Shelley’s songwriting, the Buzzcocks’ music is both loud and abrasive as well as being catchy.
