Artist : BECK Album : Odelay Added by Mikhailo (tabteammate-guitar. com) . transcribed by MaxxDaddy. In the recent CMJ article, Beck says the original title of the song was "Aurele"(a Chicano exclamatory slang, which according to Beck is "somewhere between 'salut' or 'l'chaim' ") but the engineer heard the chorus wrong and wrote down "O-de-lay". In the end, Beck liked the way "Odelay" looked better.

Beck is a terrific artist in every sense of the word. However, on this album he just doesn't use his talent as well as he had in the past, and ended up creating a very commercially friendly album that droned on much longer (with not enough variation) than it should have. Even with Odelay being circlejerked by critics, it is far from Beck's best output. fav tracks: Derelict, Ramshackle. Or consider a donation? #1.

Beck - Odelay! on the Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums list. 1. Devil's Haircut - A tightly produced Rock song with the help of a couple of samples and Beck's poetic lyrics that almost never make any sense throughout the whole album. This song starts the album off fresh and energetic. And the song ends with near "hazardous to your hearing" guitar feedback, while Beck Yells out "Devil's Haircut, in my mind!!!" . /5. 2. Hotwax - This Bluesy/groovy masterpiece is loaded with samples and odd instruments.

Odelay is the second major-label studio album (and fourth album overall) recorded by alternative rock artist Beck, originally released June 18, 1996. After the mainstream success of "Loser", Odelay featured several hit singles, including "Where It's At", "Devils Haircut," and "The New Pollution. The album peaked at on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually sold over 2 million copies in the United States.
