Turn! Turn! Turn! is the second album by the folk rock band the Byrds and was released in December 1965 on Columbia Records (see 1965 in music). Like its predecessor, Mr. Tambourine Man, the album epitomized the folk rock genre and continued the band's successful mix of vocal harmony and jangly twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar.

All of the material on the album was rather middle of the road, nothing unconventional, other than the spiritual nature of the songs and their delivery, delivered at a time when faith in anything was being challenged by the younger generation, so hearing this sort of music, even so melodically done, harkened back to the values of our parent. he establishment. Even with each song laced with pop oriented country-esque vocals and instrumentations, it never really moved anyone
The Byrds’ second album, Turn! Turn! Turn!, in many ways exceeds the expectations of their debut, Mr. Tambourine Man. While the formula had been established with their 12-string, harmony-laden version of the Dylan tune, the band still had plenty of variations to work over. This time, the title track is a Pete Seeger adaptation of Biblical verse given the Byrds’ trademarked electricity, while the traditional folk song, He Was A Friend Of Mine, is updated by Roger McGuinn to be a tribute to the late President Kennedy

Turn!, was only a disappointment in comparison with Mr. They couldn't maintain such a level of consistent magnificence, and the follow-up was not quite as powerful or impressive. It was still quite good, however, particularly the ringing number one title cut, a classic on par with the "Mr. Tambourine Man" single.
Turn!" but quickly moves into more droning, psychedelic territory, recalling the early Who while pointing the way toward "Eight Miles High. A Dylanesque folk waltz written and sung by McGuinn, this was the second single from the Byrds' third album, "Fifth Dimension. And where "Eight Miles High" explored the sonic side of psychedelic rock, "5D" was more about the psychedelic narrative while sticking closer to the folk-rock template
Album: Turn! Turn! Turn! (1965). When The Byrds started working on this song, McGuinn and David Crosby devised a new arrangement of Seeger's original, but it took the band over 50 tries to get the sound right. Judy Collins' version was released as a single in 1969 when it was included on her album Recollections. It reached in the US, the only Hot 100 appearance of the song besides The Byrds' rendition. Dolly Parton covered this on her 1984 album of cover songs The Great Pretender, and again in 2005 on Those Were The Days. Miles from Vancouver, CanadaSimply put, it is one of the most gorgeous pop or rock songs of the 60's. And it was written by the kindhearted Pete Seeger, God rest his soul.
