From 2001 onwards, Wiley began producing instrumental singles on his Wiley Kat Recordings label. The most famous ones are the "Eskimo", "Avalanche", "Ice Rink" and "Snowman". These led to a solo record deal with XL Recordings. In 2004, Wiley released his debut album, Treddin' on Thin Ice on XL. Singles from the album include "Wot Do U Call It?", a record questioning what name should be given to his music, and "Pies". In 2015, Wiley released an EP on his new record label called Chasing The Art Records, In 2016 Wiley and his manager John Woolf signed a distribution deal with Warner Music Group to release some music by Wiley and future artists that sign to the label. Wiley is currently signed to Big Dada and Boy Better Know.

Two years later, Wiley released ‘Ice Rink’. Both the peak of another iconic Wiley sound palette and one of the most powerful instrumentals he ever made, there are countless vocal versions of it. The best though, is Wiley’s 2006 revisit, ‘Sorry Sorry Pardon What’, which is both hype as all fuck and slightly tragic, as it’s effectively Wiley having to cut and paste together the Wiley/Dizzee reunion that he’s been obsessed with since they fell out in 2003. In a list of 20 best grime songs, Dizzee could very easily take up half the list, so picking the album seems the smartest move. I obsessively collected Wiley Kat 12 s. I’ve probably got about 25, but even then I’d leave two in the shop because they were identikit, iterations on a them. e was selling this music in volumes of tens of thousands that would be staggering now. Wiley - Eskimo. The music was undefined, unshackled from garage and motored almost entirely by young inner-city kids in their teens or very early twenties. It was like being in a garage rave, but listening to grime, says Cheeky, who began as an underage Eski boy. People dancing and drinking champagne, DJs, the MCs - it was a hype ting. In July ‘10, Wiley leaked 203 tracks from his hard drive, including those due for his second album with Island. In grime mythology, it’s up there with the KLF burning a million quid.
