With Guilty of Everything, Nothing prove that established sounds such as Shoegaze and Dream Pop, and influence in general, is purely a product of the listener. What ultimately matters is how we react to music beyond the constrains of age old definition and its place in history, through how these sounds makes us feel in the present. And right now, Guilty of Everything is the sound of a band magnificently balancing distinctive styles, simplistic and turbulent structures, and harsh and dreamy textures that eclipses history, influence, and definition.

The guitars are distorted and rich - not unlike those on Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream or Failure’s Fantastic Planet. One of my few complaints with Guilty of Everything lies with the vocal delivery on the album’s faster numbers, where the band offer some expertly crafted melodies at a punk-paced BPM, but the vocals don’t vary much; this creates an awkward sonic dissonance. I’m curious to see this discrepancy play out live since it’s hard to imagine singing this subdued competing with guitars this loud (in the band’s defense, I’ve read nothing but great things about their live performance).

A profoundly thoughtful, beautifully crushing wave of droning distortion, the album is epic and stirring, even unnerving at times, but it carves a path toward enlightened serenity. Guilty of Everything opens with a warm, ringing guitar as Palermo, his gentle falsetto buried just behind the mix, sings of "summers spent in a well," alone and far from home. It's melancholy, but it feels like a reassuring balm to life's ills - just before the song erupts with the pulverizing tumult that comes to define much of the record.
