Just a Souvenir could just bridge Jenkinson's longtime appreciation gap. Heck, it's just about the Squarepusher equivalent to Sgt. Pepper's. Souvenir is ostensibly a concept album, complete with a cockamamie yarn Jenkinson has spun about its woozily constructed device: "a daydream about watching a crazy, beautiful rock band play an ultra-gig" centered around a giant neon coat-hanger. Into his vision enter guitars that can manipulate space-time, Eskimos, chainsaws, and Cro-Magnons. At the conclusion, Jenkinson laments that his memory of the scene is his only souvenir-.

Just A Souvenir ‎(CD, Album, Car). Just A Souvenir ‎(CD, Album). In this album he shoves the squares straight into your stupid face while you're still doubled over in joy from the last track. Everything is well covered - drum & bass & jazz - to progressive & grunge. All in the same track even. Take a time-out to listen through in one setting. Superb production & musical progression take it to the next level. The one annoyance is that some of the tunes are arguably cheesy

Just a Souvenir is an album by Squarepusher, which was widely released on October 27, 2008. The album originated in a daydream, in which Tom Jenkinson envisioned a rock band performing a concert against the backdrop of a large, glowing coathanger.

Squarepusher gived us a solid concept album here that marks his first attempt to materialize this fantasy/dream he has about this futuristis space band that prob is made up of robots due to the creative punkish song that is trck 4. At first is sounds like a overprocessed punk rock song-(who would want to hear that esp from squarepusher-i thought.

From the fevered imagination of Squarepusher's Tom Jenkinson, Just a Souvenir attempts to soundtrack a vivid dream where Jenkinson experienced a live concert like none other. Surprisingly, the album succeeds despite the dream's inclusion of portions where a river appears on-stage (forcing bandmembers to begin kayaking) and all the drums in the Eskimo's drumkit repeatedly changing places with each other.

The engaging dichotomy that reoccurs throughout the majority of Squarepusher's work, especially since 1998's Music is Rotted One Note, could be characterised as a futurist, post-rave impulse jostling with a formal training (and frightening talent) in freeform jazz. Though the organic and the electronic have never been mutually exclusive in Tom Jenkinson's world, Just A Souvenir offers perhaps the clearest indication that the party is indeed over.

Still sounding like no other artist on the planet-whether because of talent or intent-Squarepusher succeeds again with a radical, challenging piece of music. 80. Just a Souvenir reveals itself to be a solid record, up there with the best of Squarepusher's work-as any good performer knows, you always leave the audience wanting more.

The album only suffers (and in retrospect, changed my mind about the . ) in that the middle section is a tad to sam-ey, and there are too many pointless interludes interrupting my listening experience. That, however, is a personal complaint, and don’t let it stop you from giving this fascinating album a spin. Choice Cuts: ‘Star Time 2’, ‘Duotone Moonbeam’, ‘Quadrature’.

Not one of the best Squarepusher albums at all. Where 'Go Plastic' had the vision, originality, and spine-tingling weirdness, this has a homely, check blanket blandness. Production is clear but thin, sound palatte is stock, bass playing and tunes are good. But now compare the lyrics of 'Red Hot Car' to 'Open Society' for a case-in-point of this albums problems. Compare the treatment, the presentation and styling. Straight razor vs. safety Bic. Numbers Lucent goes a little way to redressing the balance, but this was the beginning of the end for me and Tom. Time to move on.

A good Squarepusher album.
