The Rise & Fall is the fourth studio album by English ska/pop band Madness. It was originally released in October 1982, on the label Stiff. This album saw Madness at their most experimental, exhibiting a range of musical styles including jazz, English music hall, and Eastern influences. NME described it at the time of its release as "The best Madness record". It has often been retrospectively described as a concept album.

There’s a certain grandness to the title of Madness Presents the Rise & Fall, the group’s fourth album and undeniable pop masterpiece: it’s clear that the band has ambitions, to go several steps beyond ska, to craft nothing less than a Village Green Preservation Society for the ‘80s. The Kinks figure heavily in Madness’ design for The Rise & Fall, both in individual tunes and the overall arc of the concept album, but so does Ian Dury’s celebration of the riffraff of London, the latter giving Madness an earthiness that Ray Davies’ crew lacked during their time on the Village Green.

Title track from the best album Madness produced. this is a great song. it brings a tear to my eye though, because it reminds me of primary school, which i just left a few months ago, because of the music thorugh it and especially the lyrics :') 5 years назад. First cassette ever bought was the The Rise and Fall 1983. Possibly the best sax solo ever. It sends shivers down my back every time. Long live the nutty boys.
