Askeregn have mixed hatred with depression and nobody can deny that this is a fairly ordinary approach for a black metal band. But at the same time, these ingredients are the main reason why "Monumenter" captures the essence of the genre in a convincing manner. Indeed, this full-length reveals the extremely ugly face of black metal. Askeregn do not hesitate to destroy all that is beautiful. The intensity of the album is remarkable and I don't have the feeling that "Monumenter" is too short (the slightly expressionistic outro part of the last piece is rather too long). I am also not of the opinion that important elements are missing.
