Mary Allin Travers (November 9, 1936 – September 16, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter and member of the folk music group Peter, Paul and Mary, along with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey. Peter, Paul and Mary was one of the most successful folk music groups of the 1960s. Unlike most folk musicians of the early 1960s who were a part of the burgeoning music scene in New York City's Greenwich Village, Travers grew up there.

Mary Travers, whose ringing, earnest vocals with the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary made songs like Blowin’ in the Wind, If I Had a Hammer and Where Have All the Flowers Gone? enduring anthems of the 1960s protest movement, died on Wednesday at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. She was 72 and lived in Redding, Conn. Ms. Travers, he added, was crucial to the group’s image, which had a lot to do with its appeal. The next year they released their first album. Virtually overnight Peter, Paul and Mary became one of the most popular folk-music groups in the world.
