Although Bob Dylan didn't want to release "The Basement Tapes" it did have a huge impact on his work. I see both "Love And Theft" and "Modern Times" as logical successors of "The Basement Tapes" in a way of completely ignoring popular trends and strutting and strumming music you really love. Faces Ooh La la. The Beach Boys The Beach Boys in Concert. Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane Rough Mix. The Beach Boys Carl and the Passions.
Dylan never sounded as loose, nor was he ever as funny as he is here, and this positively revels in its weird, wild character. For all the apparent antecedents - and the allusions are sly and obvious in equal measure - this is truly Dylan's show, as he majestically evokes old myths and creates new ones, resulting in a crazy quilt of blues, humor, folk, tall tales, inside jokes, and rock. The Band pretty much pick up where Dylan left off, even singing a couple of his tunes, but they play it a little straight, on both their rockers and ballads.
American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has released 38 studio albums, 91 singles, 26 notable extended plays, 40 music videos, 13 live albums, 14 volumes comprising The Bootleg Series, 19 compilation albums, 13 box sets, 7 soundtracks as main contributor, 5 music home videos and 2 non-music home videos. Dylan has been the subject of 5 documentaries, starred in 3 theatrical films, appeared in an additional 8 films and 10 home videos, and is the subject of the biographical tribute film I'm Not There
By the time it came out in June 1975, Bob Dylan and the Band's The Basement Tapes was the most famous album never released. It was also one of the most frequently bootlegged. It was written about, dissected, discussed and heralded as a masterpiece before Dylan's record company finally decided to put out some of the songs that were recorded by the singer and his onetime backing band eight years earlier. He pretty much disappeared from public during this period, but in the summer of 1967, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson – who played together as the Hawks and backed Dylan in one form or another during his 1966 tour, and would later rename themselves the Band – began recording impromptu sessions with Dylan at his home.

The first, Hard Rain, is an intense nine-track disc drawn from two May 1976 shows. The other, the Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Bob Dylan Live 1975: The Rolling Thunder Revue, cobbles together various songs from the fall 1975 leg. Both have absolutely pristine sound and show the band (led by David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson) in peak form. In June of 1988 Bob Dylan kicked off a tour that has yet to stop. Nearly every show has been taped, leaving fans with hundreds upon hundreds of tapes to sort through. Here are some of the best. Jones Beach, 6/30/88 This is the best soundboard from the early .
