If you like bel canto singing and the music of Bellini, Verdi, Donizetti and Rossini, and if you like operatic tenor voices, you will find much to savor in this recording. Tenor Villazon has a strong, true tenor voice. He performs well all the high range gymnastics expected of the tenor and when he is singing in his middle and low range, his voice has the bottom I miss in some of his brethren who remind me more of human capons. The only real complaint I have about this album concerns the arrangements. These jewel-like 19th century songs were intended to be sung to an elegant and subtle piano accompaniment. The orchestral arrangements featured on this disc, tasteful though they are, occasionally overwhelm them.
