James Watts, also known by the moniker KiloWatts, is an American electronic musician. He has toured across Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United States since 2002. His 2007 release Ground State was said to lead the devoted listener to a state of total hypnosis by Side-Line Magazine. In 2006, Igloo Magazine called his album Routes "a lifetime of travel compressed into an hour of aural head-tripping

Complete your KiloWatts collection. My God! This album is sooooo great! After "Ground State", which was more upbeat and glitch, dub-step influenced, this goes back to - slightly - more laid back atmospheres, but still with an aggressive edge here and there. I love how there are traces of funk, disco and jazz in some of the tunes; how organic they sound and how impeccably musical it all is.

My God! This album is sooooo great! After "Ground State", which was more upbeat and glitch / dub-step influenced, this goes back to - slightly - more laid back atmospheres, but still with an aggressive edge here and there. I love how there are traces of funk, disco and jazz in some of the tunes; how organic they sound and how impeccably musical it all is. Jamie is a master of juxtaposing sounds & moods: dark vs. light, organic vs. electronic; and it really requires skill to pull it off. It gets weird at times (e.g. "Mobius Cakes") but just when you think he lost it, he somehow turns the track around and makes it awesome again with some delicious melodic work, some crazy FX or unexpected arrangement. I actually like the 1st half (or maybe third?) of the album more, with "Hammerstings" & "Cerebellum Hotel" combo pulling just the right notes - I love the delicate, understated and almost inaudible conclusions to some of the melodic sequences, leading me sometimes to even question myself are those notes really there :) I deeply appreciate music like that - when some things are left for interpretation, vague and non-direct: it's as much about spaces between the notes, as it is about the notes themselves.5/5 no doubt.
