For The Dear Hunter album, see The Color Spectrum. White light is dispersed by a prism into the colors of the visible spectrum. The spectral colors from red to violet are divided by the notes of the musical scale, starting at D. The circle completes a full octave, from D to D. Newton's circle places red, at one end of the spectrum, next to violet, at the other. This reflects the fact that non-spectral purple colors are observed when red and violet light are mixed In the 17th century, Isaac Newton discovered that prisms could disassemble and reassemble white light, and . .

Cheval Sombre's debut album showed that the poet/musician had a strong ear for overtly Spacemen 3/Sonic Boom-tinged psych-pop, especially in the latter's first solo effort, released as the Spectrum album - to the point where Pete Kember himself was actually the producer, so perhaps there was little surprise there. Enjoyable as it was, Mad Love finds Cheval Sombre, again working with Kember, in a much stronger place, even as the basic approach stays similar to what happened before

These enchanting bits of hypnotic etherial atmospheric wonderings by Spectrum and Cheval Sombre [Christopher Porpora, from New York, and currently on Dean & Britta’s label Double Feature] were a blessing on white vinyl, just in time to support Record Day. It’s been far too long since Pete Kember [Sonic Boom, and late of Spacemen 3] gave us some new material that we can hold in our hands, as Spectrum’s new release seems to be continually pushed further into the future. The Spectrum side of this 7 inch is the release of “Mary,” a tribute to the late and most wonderful Mary Hansen from Stereolab, and delivers over seven minutes of intoxicating sonic drone. Cheval’s side, “Red Moon,” floats in a bit of delicate psychedelic folk, with some harmonies by Sonic Boom, all indications suggesting that Christopher’s impending release with be filled with more stunning drugged out slow-core visions that dance in the air, and ride the night breezes.
