Complete your Julian Bream collection. Plays Bach (LP, Album, Mono). referencing A Bach Recital For The Guitar, LP, Mono, CLP 1929. A little 'far away' sounding which contributes to a lack of colour and dynamics. but great performances, as usual, from JB. Reply Notify me Helpful.

Julian Alexander Bream, CBE (born 15 July 1933), is an English virtuoso classical guitarist and lutenist. One of the most distinguished classical guitarists of the 20th century, he played a significant role in improving the public perception of the classical guitar as a respectable instrument. Bream was born in Battersea, London, and brought up in a musical environment in Hampton. Bream described his parents as both "conventional suburban", but in another way "very unusual"

In 1956, Julian Bream made a recording of portions of BWV 996, 997, all of 998 and 999, for Westminster, entitled A Bach Recital for Guitar. In 1965 he made what may fairly be called one of most widely-heard and influential recordings of Bach, titled Lute Suites I and II. Emmanuel Winternitz quotes Bream’s memorable remarks in notes to the recording that the music falls happier on the guitar.
Julian Bream is without a doubt my favourite classical guitarist. I was privileged enough to see the living legend perform in my first year of guitar lessons in 1988. From memory I think most of his repertoire at the time was very modern and featured 'All in Twilight' by Toru Takemitsu. The downside of the recital was that I had only just started learning classical guitar and I couldn't appreciate the virtuosity and the grandeur of the musicianship that was on display
At the beginning of a concert in San Francisco, Xuefei Yang dazzled the crowd by performing the Bach Lute Suite BWV 995 on a 7-string guitar. Listen to her performance of Bream’s arrangement of Gloriana, Op. 53: The Second Lute Song of the Earl of Essex by Benjamin Britten, and you will understand why Yang was chosen to perform when Bream was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Gramophone Awards in London. More recently, Yang was honored in Guitar Player’s May 2017 cover story as one of the magazine’s 50 Sensational Female Guitarists. I was very impressed with the Chinese pieces on Songs from Our Ancestors. I’m quite grateful that Globe Music asked me to play music from my ancestors
