Steven Halpern is an American new-age musician. He is a Grammy-award nominee and considered to be one of the founding fathers of new-age music. Halpern played trumpet and guitar in the New York City jazz scene of the 1960s, but became disenchanted with it and moved to California. There he began exploring the idea of creating music entirely for the purpose of relaxation, which he called "anti-frantic alternative" music

STARBORN SUITE began I was invited to London in 1977 to be the first American musician featured at the inaugural Festival of Mind, Body and Spirit. The music was extraordinary in its own right, and I was guided to have these compositions serve as the genesis of STARBORN SUITE. Incidentally, Side B included music I recorded while in the UK at the Findhorn community in northern Scotland, internationally renowned for their roses grown in snow, 38 pound cabbages, and manifestations of human/deva kingdom cooperation.
