Poison's second album, Open Up and Sa. .Ahh!, was released May 21, 1988. It peaked at No. 2 on the American charts and would ultimately go on to sell 8 million copies worldwide. The album included the band's biggest hit, the No. 1 single "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", along with other hits "Nothin' but a Good Time", "Fallen Angel", and the Loggins and Messina cover "Your Mama Don't Dance". It was the song that stuck and I think it fits perfectly for our band. it was kinda like an open pallet for us. Say Ah.Following the Hollyweird world tour Poison released their second compilation album, Best of Ballads & Blues, in 2003.

The Open Up And Sa. hh! campaign got off to a positive start with the MTV-friendly ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time’ climbing to N. in the US in April 1988, with another slow-burning album highlight, ‘Fallen Angel’, soon following it into the Top 20. Released as the album’s third single, ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ proved Rockett and company were right to stick to their guns: the song raced up the US charts and rewarded Poison with their first (and, to date, only) Billboard N.

The front cover of the album featured the Poison logo and album title as a tattoo on Rikki Rockett's arm. The cover was originally planned to have a slightly different version of the tattoo cover that featured the tattoo after being freshly inked. This showed the skin as red and inflamed with dripping ink or blood. This cover was pulled though and instead a cleaned up tattoo was shown. The original cover was released for the initial pressing in Japan but was subsequently removed from all later pressings (including those in Japan).
