Renaissance is the self-titled debut album by the English progressive rock band Renaissance, released in late 1969. All tracks written by Keith Relf and Jim McCarty, with themes by John Hawken and Louis Cennamo, except where noted. Jane Relf - vocals, percussion. Keith Relf - electric guitar, vocals, harmonica. The original Renaissance's band released two studio albums, 'Renaissance', in 1969 and 'Illusion', in 1971. The London based RENAISSANCE had an interesting journey early on but finally on the band's fourth album "Ashes Are Burning" hit upon a progressively infused symphonic folk rock type of sound fortified with Baroque pop. The album found the perfect mix of cleverly crafted tracks that teased addictive pop hooks into the progressively worked out epics.

Prologue (Renaissance album). Though all the songs are Renaissance originals, they were not written by any current members of the band but by former members Jim McCarty (from the first line-up) and Michael Dunford (ex-Nashville Teens, from the transitional line-ups), along with lyricist Betty Thatcher. Dunford would become part of the band again after Hendry's departure, but was not officially a band member during the recording of next album Ashes Are Burning in 1973. In The Beginning reissue.
