Heart Food ‎(CD, Album, RE). Asylum Records, EastWest Japan. Heart Food ‎(LP, Album, Mon). This LP is pure magic. Judee was a mystic visionary that didn't bow down to societal norms. She left us with just enough music to cherish, this album being her most authentic, fully realized work. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful. Marketplace 0 8 For Sale from €6. 9.

Judee Sill is one of rock's more interesting and lesser-known stories. Because of her troubled family history she was looking for an escape of reality. After surviving a heroin addiction and a brief stint as a bank robber, Sill turned her rather intense passions to music. She released two albums and partially completed a third album before her death in 1979. Sill's music was complex, elegantly crafted and yet completely devoid of pretension or overwrought melodrama. Unfairly lumped in with other female, proto-adult contemporary songwriters like Joni Mitchell or Carole King, Sill was. Instead of using an outside arranger for the strings for her album Heart Food (as she did on her previous album Judee Sill ), Sill did all of the work herself. 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

The second album Judee Sill made proved to be her last. This brief though enjoyable outing took its toll on Sill - a notoriously slow songwriter - during its making, turning her back to her recently kicked heroin addiction and away from the desire to create more music. Instead of using an outside arranger for the strings (as she did on her previous album), Sill did all of the work herself. Her lack of formal training and the immense amount of orchestral overdubs certainly would have made such an outing a hardship for anyone. To wit, Heart Food suffers only in comparison to its predecessor; otherwise, it's a stellar example of the kind of singer/songwriter fare the music industry was mining in the early '70s. The supporting cast of top . studio musicians solidifies Sill's unique brand of country-flavored pop, which moves from introspective meanderings to loping rock, often within a single song.

Judee Sill was a California girl. Like Wilson, she had a troubled family; the tragic death of her father while she was still a child, and the death of her brother soon afterward left her permanently scarred- and her mother's alcoholism left Sill practically rootless. Rootless, that is, except for an almost feverish mystic-religious bent, inspiring the likewise artistically minded Sill to write several songs directly related to Christ-like figures or otherwise heavenly phenomena. And then I heard "The Kiss" from 1973's Heart Food. If ever there was a song that lived up to the glorious, simultaneous heartbreaking and mending I might expect from a symphony to God, it's this.

Judee Sill's second and last album released during her short life plays with early-'70s California canyon twang thanks in part to her being accompanied by some of the genre's luminaries, like Flying Burrito Brothers bassist Chris Ethridge, banjo man Doug Dillard, steel-guitar guru Buddy Emmons, and Spooner Oldham on the keys  . The remastering of Heart Food highlights every nuance and texture, especially on the bonus instrumental, "Jig. Heart Food (Remastered) Judee Sill.

Dreams Come True is the third official album release by singer and songwriter Judee Sill. A double CD released on Water Records in 2005, the album mainly contains work originally recorded in the seventies as potential material for a third album on Asylum Records.

Heart Food is the second album released by American singer/songwriter and musician Judee Sill. It was released on David Geffen's Asylum label in March 1973 to acclaim but minimal sales. Sill wrote, arranged, and produced the album. As with Judee Sill, it was reissued by Rhino Records in 2003, featuring new liner notes and extra demos and unreleased tracks.

On Heart Food, Sill's voice is stronger and Lewy's production more resonant. Built around the singer's guitar or piano, the songs are arranged with similar ambition. Rather than using an outside arranger for the strings (as she did on her previous album), Sill did all of the work herself. Judee Sill's follow-up to her 1971 self-titled debut sadly also turned out to be her final album, yet Heart Food stands neck and neck with its wondrous predecessor as a near-flawless slice of 1970s pop-flavored Laurel Canyon folk. The production and arrangements here are much grander then on Judee Sill, with her original piano- and guitar-driven songs enhanced by strings, church organ, harmonica, pedal steel, kettle drums, and even male vocals.
