Jazz alto/tenor saxophonist Tab Smith (born Talmadge Smith in Kinston, North Carolina on January 11, 1909 - died at age 62 on August 17, 1971) began his career with The Mills Blue Rhythm Band in 1936 and remained with them through to 1938. In 1940 he signed on with the famed Count Basie Orchestra and played there until 1942 when he moved to the Lucky Millinder aggregation where he remained until 1944.
