Metric is a Canadian band. This band was first made in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario. Their first CD, called Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?came out in 2003. Their new CD, Live It Out, was released on October 4, 2005.

The Band, the group's second album, was a more deliberate and even more accomplished effort, partially because the players had become a more cohesive unit, and partially because guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs. Though a Canadian, Robertson focused on a series of American archetypes from the union worker in "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" and the retired sailor in "Rockin' Chair" to, most famously, the Confederate Civil War observer Virgil Cane in "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.

The band supported nationalism in its 2004 album Only in Amerika but has also supported liberal politicians. We are hed pe. Wesley Geer. The band’s 1992 controversial song resulted in protests across the US. There were other rock bands in the early 1990s that started adding hip-hop features in their music. That included the band Rage Against the Machine that was inspired by political rap groups like PE and added guitar solos. The band then released a second compilation album in 2010 titled Major Pain 2 Indee Freedom: The Best of Hed PE. It included a new single and DVD of the band performing in the city of Los Angeles. During the same year, the band released the album Truth Rising that was listed on the Billboard Top 100. The band then released a new compilation album in 2013. During that year DJ Product also left the band. During 2014 more band members left Hed PE.

The band’s sophomore album Live It Out, was released in 2005 by Last Gang Records, significantly out-performing its predecessor, later being certified double platinum in Canada. In support of the album, Metric played shows at Coachella Music Festival and Ottawa Bluesfest, and performed across Canada alongside Tokyo Police Cub and The Dears. After contributing to the soundtracks of Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Scot Pilgrim vs. the World, Metric toured in support of Muse and released the remix album Fantasies Flashback in 2011. The full-length Synthetica was issued in July 2012 on the band’s own Metric Music International label.
