Escapology is a 2002 album by Robbie Williams, his fifth solo effort, and his last with producer and co-songwriter Guy Chambers. The most successful singles released from the album were "Feel" and "Something Beautiful". Escapology was arguably conceived as a concept album due to its lyrics being totally reflective about Williams' life as a popstar in Los Angeles, particularly his hopes ("Hot Fudge") and fears ("Monsoon").
Escapology is the fifth studio album by English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams. It was released on 18 November 2002 through EMI Records. The album debuted at number one in the United Kingdom with first-week sales of over 264,000, becoming Williams' fifth consecutive number one. Contents. In 2002, Williams signed a record-breaking £80 million contract with EMI. The contract included a number of provisos, including the label ceding greater creative control to the artist and a commitment to breaking Williams in the American market. In return, EMI affirmed they would benefit from a cut of Williams' non-recording activities, including touring, publishing, and merchandising, thus protecting the company from any commercial downturn in the singer's album sales

With the news that Escapology would be the last Robbie Williams album recorded with producer/songwriter phenom Guy Chambers, fans began to wonder whether one of Britain's most durable pop forces would execute a disappearing act from the charts with a single album. Unfortunately, Escapology makes it sound as though Chambers has already left. Backed by stale songs, formulaic arrangements, and mediocre songwriting, Williams is forced to rely on his volcanic personality to bring this album across - and despite a few strong performances, he sinks into lame self-parody time and time again.
All of which bodes ill for Robbie Williams's fifth solo album. Last month Williams signed a staggering £80m contract with EMI, the biggest British deal ever. Escapology has become, as one music mag put it, "the album with the £80m price tag". That kind of money can't be recouped - unless Williams achieves success in the US, a country that has thus far proved indifferent to his charms.
Temporarily out of stock. But there's no doubt that the tone of the album is less mercurial and irreverent than the Williams of old. That's not a bad thing-the anti-celebrity sentiments expressed in "Monsoon" are commendable for their frankness. When Williams sings, "I'm here to make money and get laid/ Yeah, I'm a star but I'll fade," you get the sense he's been doing more in . than chasing tail around the Standard Hotel.
02 Record label: emi int'l Genre(s): Pop. 80 Music-Critic Score How the Music Critic Score works. Escape To Another Level by: peter naldrett. A true performer and one of the few men of real talent to emerge from the Boy Band era, Robbie Williams is back with another stunning album. As for influences, Williams seems to have brought dozens to this album and as a result this is a CD heaped high with diverse styles. The intro on the opener, "How Peculiar," seems to come straight from Blur’s "13," while the hi-energy of "Song 3" more than alludes to Albarn’s "Song 2". "Something Beautiful" at times sounds like a song from the Beautiful South catalogue and there’s a line from "Monsoon" that is so Oasis.
