It is this version of the song that appears on Sublime's self-titled album. The line "And we can do it like this, in the place to b. is sampled from the Beastie Boys' "Slow and Low" from their 1986 album Licensed to Ill. The song also samples "Jump for Jah" by Ini Kamoze, "Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren, and "Holy Thursday" by David Axelrod.
However, just as Sublime were poised to release their third album, widely expected to be their commercial breakthrough, lead singer Brad Nowell died of a drug overdose in May, 1996. Ironically, Nowell's death helped to attract attention to the album, which became a huge hit despite the band breaking up following Nowell's passing .
