Faces is the tenth studio album by the R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire released on October 14, 1980 on ARC/Columbia Records. The album reached number 2 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, number 10 on the Billboard Top Soul albums chart and number 10 on the UK Albums chart. Faces was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. Faces was partly recorded in the Caribbean island of Montserrat and produced by EWF leader Maurice White. Artists such as Fred Wesley and Toto's Steve Lukather guested on the album.

Earth, Wind & Fire: Powerlight Since classic EW&F succeeds in spite of Maurice White's universalist hoohah, the paucity of inspirational numbers is a blessing. The one that celebrates voting is gratifyingly practical, the one that celebrates children's eyes one too many, and otherwise we're free to gape at this band's spectacular popcraft. Their sonic affluence and showtime groove encompass whispering strings no less perfect than their JB guitar beats, Funkafunnies harmonies no less schmaltzy than their Lionel Richie homages, and when the synthesis.

Earth Wind and Fire really do produce eternal tunes that last the test of time. Over 25 years later and the bulk of the album is still immensely enjoyable. Powerlight has some excellent trademark EWF tracks but the more Hard Funk edgy track Freedom of choice probably detracts from the rest of the album. Still was always going to be a hard act to follow after the previous classic album Raise. I have a special place for both for that very fact. POWERLIGHT is an album with great songwriting and truly spectacular vocal harmonies by Maurice and Philip Bailey. And of course, their trademark musicianship and other worldly horn arrangements. The second side of the album especially has some of the most incredible harmonies they ever did and that's saying something.
