Just when you least feel like it, and it hurts the most, is when experts say you have to get moving. Why does my back hurt? It is hard to know. Experts describe the pain, stiffness and soreness that so many of us experience as non-specific or musculoskeletal LBP. The diagnosis implies that underlying serious disease (pressure on the spinal cord, vertebral fracture or collapse, infection, cancer, inflammatory arthritis and pain from other organs) has been ruled out.

You need to know scale construction, intervals, triads, all the good stuff of which music is made. You'll get it in this book if you're willing to do some work. Now, the book is fairly spare and if you want a very deep understanding you'll need one of those weighty theory books. That's up to you. But I can say my study of this book paid off from day one and I expect it to continue to do so. There's half a dozen 'aha' moments in every section. So take it seriously. But of you really want to understand music theory as it applies to the guitar, get this book. I can now fully understand Kolb's book as I aspire to become an advanced player.

Here are all the questions you might be a little afraid to ask her, answered with honesty and humor. And today, Longden premieres her TED Book, delving deeper into her experience. In the early days, identifying these ‘triggers’ were very helpful in making more sense of why the voices were there and what they represented. Do the voices ever make you laugh out loud? Yes, sometimes! Some can be very outrageous with their humor, very daring, whereas others have a droll, Bill Hicks-like cynicism.

Notes

Press release:
Our man Eugene Robinson—you know him as the dude who choked you out at the Oxbow show—has been threatening to write a fight book for some time now, and the good folks at HarperCollins finally told him to put his mouth where their money was. the result is FIGHT: Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Ass-Kicking But Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked For Asking, a black-eyed, split-lipped, bloody-knuckled journey into the black heart of the fistic arts—from Ultimate Fighting, underground fight clubs and kickboxing to soccer hooliganism, vicious "rock n' roll" prison-cell combat, and good old-fashioned bar brawls. The best part is that we managed to convince him (actually, it didn't take much convincing) to record an audio version of FIGHT for release on 2xCD. The tapes he sent us play out like Ray Liotta's voiceover from Goodfellas transposed across a series of merciless, technically proficient beatings—only without all the messy coke scenes and, like, antipasto. Come get some.
