Ramblin' Jack Elliott (born Elliot Charles Adnopoz; August 1, 1931) is an American folk singer and performer. Elliott was born in 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Florence (Rieger) and Abraham Adnopoz. His family was Jewish. He attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn and graduated in 1949. Elliott grew up inspired by the rodeos at Madison Square Garden, and wanted to be a cowboy
On 1999's THE LONG RIDE, Ramblin' Jack Elliott carried on the age-old tradition of storytelling. Serving as the bridge between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, Elliott has managed to garner quite a following of famous friends and fans. Although not as celeb-heavy as 1998's FRIENDS OF MINE, THE LONG RIDE finds quiet a few notable guest appearances. Produced by bluesman Roy Rogers, (who also plays guitar on a number of songs), this collection finds Elliott covering artists including the Rolling Stones (a peppy "Connection") and Tom Waits (the banjo-heavy "Pony").

Ramblin' Jack Elliott borrowed from Woody Guthrie's folk stylings long before Bob Dylan did. Elliott is one of the most longstanding artists in the folk realm. He was first inspired to pick up a guitar and teach himself to play when he ran away from home at the age of fifteen to join a traveling carnival. He stumbled upon a singing rodeo clown and soon realized that he wanted to play guitar and sing.
