Strung Out by Paul Zukofsky. 8. 30. Vertical Thoughts. Zukovsky and ensemble's recording sounds more chamber-like, immmediate, visceral and rough-hewn, and Jurg Wyttenbach's with the Polish Radio-Television Orchestra, Giacinto Scelsi: Quattro Pezzi per Orchestra, Anahit, Uaxuctum, more orchestral, refined and atmospheric, but also more dramatic in its dynamics. Xenakis' Mikka and Mikka S for solo violin are two extraordinary Etudes for continuous glissando, one in single tone, the other in double stops. Mikka was composed in 1972 (and premiered by Ivry Gitlis), and Mikka S was completed in November 1975, with Zukofsky's recording coming soon after, on June 29, 1976.
