Omar S called his new album 'The Best' because that's exactly the kind of thing that Omar S does. And that's why we love him. Because Omar is a special dude and because he can walk the walk. Pressed on Quadruple red vinyl, expensive as hell, and featuring an impressive cast-list of collaborators including Kyle Hall, O B Ignitt, Norman Talley and Tom Bug, 'The Best' is an outstanding deep moody house 11-track album that consolidates the reputation of Detroit house legend Omar S as a creator of timeless dance music.

Omar-S has revealed details of his next album, The Best. News of the record first broke back in December, when Omar-S, real name Alex Omar Smith, contributed a three-hour mix for RA's 500th podcast. The LP will be Smith's fifth full-length release, and arrives three years after his most recent album, 2013's Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself. Like almost all of the Detroit artist's catalogue so far, The Best lands on Smith's own FXHE Records. It comprises 11 tracks, featuring collaborations with fellow Motor CIty acts such as Norm Talley, OB Ignitt and Kyle Hall.

Omar-S (real name Alexander Omar Smith) is an electronic music producer from Detroit, Michigan, United States. Noted for his raw, stripped-back approach to both creating and marketing his music, Smith is associated with the genres of Detroit techno and house. He has self-released most of his music through his label FXHE Records Detroit, and in 2009 alluded to the reason behind the decision, saying: "I don't have a good relationship with a lot of distributors. So why waste money?".

This is a really damn good podcast of classic synth-pop, disco, and house tracks with the sort of pop appeal that would make such a set enjoyable even to non-fans of Omar-S. It seems to me Omar-S pulled out a bunch of favorites from his record collection and put them together in a mix. Great sampling of tracks you probably haven't heard before (or at least, in a very long time).
