Tony Bennet sounds great and more relaxed on this album than he has in a while. This album takes exactly zero risks musically. It's an album of (mostly big-band) jazz standards sung by two very competent singers with almost no improvisation. As a pure jazz album it's a fraction above a Norah Jones album in terms of its safeness. Gaga doesn't scat-sing at all. I would love to hear a manic Gaga improvisation session. She doesn't really let loose at all. I think she's got the chops to do this so I'm a bit bummed that she chose to play it so safe. All the harmonized vocal parts are "safe" harmonies. The arrangements are pop-ified.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett are releasing a jazz album later this year, a move that may or may not be considered true "artpop. Then again, Gaga's "artpop could mean anything. She's taken to promoting the forthcoming Cheek to Cheek LP while on breaks from her artRave tour. She joined Bennett for a surprise performance at his Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in late June and recently surprised the Montreal Jazz Fest audience in a similar manner.
