Hello, Dolly! (Louis Armstrong album). The tracks were mostly recorded on December 3, 1963, and April 18, 1964, in New York City. It was released by Kapp Records in 1964 and became Armstrong's most commercially successful album.
Hello, Dolly!" is the title song of the popular 1964 musical of the same name. Louis Armstrong's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. The music and lyrics were written by Jerry Herman, who also wrote the scores for many other popular musicals including Mame and La Cage aux Folles. Hello, Dolly!" was first sung by Carol Channing, who starred as Dolly Gallagher Levi in the original 1964 Broadway cast

Digby Fairweather included the album in the selected Armstrong discography in The Rough Guide to Jazz, saying that "Armstrong has established himself in 1964 with a new generation of fans.
Hello, Dolly This is Louis, Dolly It's so nice to have you back where you belong You're lookin' swell, Dolly I can tell, Dolly You're still glowin'. you're still crowin' You're still goin' strong I feel the room swayin' While the band's playin' One of our old favourite songs from way back when So take her wrap, fellas find her an empty lap, fellas Dolly'll never go away again
Album: Hello, Dolly! (1964). Hello, Dolly!" is the title song from the Tony Award-winning 1964 musical which featured Carol Channing in the lead role. In 1969 it was made into a film starring Barbra Streisand. Although the contemporary score was composed in its entirety by Jerry Herman, the play can be traced in one form or another as far back as 1835, in outline at least. In spite of the immediate success of the stage production, the song was released as a single only reluctantly. Recorded by Louis Armstrong on London Records which retailed for 2s6d, and a full arrangement for orchestra by Jimmy Lally at 4s6d. The 62-year-old Armstrong became the oldest act to top the US charts when this reached #1.
